2011-2012 State Action Team

President
Daniel Judge
Clarke County DECA
dtjudge@verizon.net

I am entering my third year in DECA, as a member of Region One.  This year I will be a seventeen year old senior at Clarke County High School.  In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer for both my school and travel team.  I participate in a number of other organizations and activities, such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, the Scholastic Bowl Team, and others.  My fondest memory of DECA, was giving my campaign speech at last year’s State Leadership Conference.  This was a great experience, because it allowed me to share my individual perspective on the importance of DECA, in my life.  I look forward to spending this next year with you.

Executive Vice President
Cari Lutkins
Potomac Falls DECA
carilutkins@aol.com

I am a senior at Potomac Falls High School in Potomac Falls, Virginia and will be serving as the Virginia DECA Executive Vice President. I have been an active member of DECA all four years at Potomac Falls, and have loved every second of it! My favorite DECA memory is at SLC 2011. Placing at competition to go to Nationals was the icing on top of the cake when I heard my name called to serve on the Virginia State Action Team! (Yes, I was that girl on stage crying!!) I have many memories that I will never forget at the two ICDC competitions in Kentucky and Orlando. In addition, I have made many great friendships through DECA. When not participating in DECA, I spend my time as the President of Potomac Fall’s Student Council, participating as a Junior Leader in YoungLife and working as a manager and buyer at Plato’s Closet. I am also a member of National English Honor Society and of course, an officer for Potomac Falls DECA! I love hanging out with all of my friends, whether going to a basketball or baseball game or going to the beach. And… you can ALWAYS catch me shopping in a Vineyard Vines store! This year I will be looking for an opportunity to promote Virginia DECA and am so excited to serve on the State Action Team…and discover all of the possibilities through DECA!

Secretary
Tonya Richardson
Eastside DECA
tonya2012lynn@yahoo.com

I am a senior at Eastside High School where I have been a DECA member for three years. This year at school I served as the President of DECA and was in charge of planning our community service activity which involved collecting cell phones for soldiers. I am the Virginia DECA secretary. Holding that position makes me responsible for making decisions that will benefit all 13,000+ members of Virginia DECA. I am from the southwestern part of Virginia, which makes me part of region 5. My favorite DECA memory would have to be at states this past year when I heard my name called out that I had won the election to become secretary. I was very shocked and excited all at the same time. But the mixed emotions definitely made all the hard work worth it, and also made me realize I was about to start a close friendship with nine strangers that would have never happened if it would not have been for DECA!

Historian
Brian Douglass Jr.
Clover Hill DECA
uncball50@gmail.com

A junior at Clover Hill High School, this will be my third year serving as DECA member of region 5. Of those three years, I have held three officer positions for my chapter, and now I get to enjoy being this year’s state Historian. Of all experiences in the past two years, none compare to the feeling of unity that comes with each rising conference. At Districts, schools are cheered for; at States, districts are cheered for; and at Nationals, entire states come together in order to compete. That coming together reflects how people should be everywhere – united. Without each other we are nothing and certainly cannot accomplish anything without some form of support. Personally, I enjoy playing baseball in and out of school, as well as participating in numerous clubs and activities including three honor societies, Rock Climbing, and Model UN to name a few. Of course, no activities list would be complete without DECA. I am positive that this year will be filled with greatness thanks to the leadership and support of over 13,000 members.

I am currently a junior at Dominion High School in Region 1 where I have been a member in DECA for three years. My favorite DECA memory was at the State Leadership Conference when my group and I were called down to the stage for being one of the few finalists in our event. That was an amazing memory because we worked so hard and to know that our project was well received was a great feeling. Along with DECA, I am apart of many other clubs like SCA, class council, and I am a member of my high school golf team. I am so excited to be serving you, Virginia DECA, as Reporter. I am looking forward to an amazing year that awaits us all!

Regional Vice Presidents

Region 1
Kristen Angerome
Dominion DECA
kangerome@hotmail.com

I am a senior at Dominion High School. I am this year’s Region One Vice President. I’ve been a DECA member all four years of my high school career and can not seem to get enough of it! I love DECA so much because of the way it pushes you to reach past your potential and strive for success. My favorite DECA memory is when I called my mom from states after the first time I competed, explaining to her what the Blue Diamond in my hands meant, and that I was going to Nationals! Winning at a DECA competition, along with all of the long-lasting friendships you make (through chapter meetings, or even conversing with other competitors), are some of the most rewarding feelings ever! Outside of DECA, I spend a ton of time playing
soccer or watching other sports (like Hockey, Football, and Baseball) on TV if I can not make it to a game! I love hanging with my family, who means the world to me! My favorite pastime is hanging with friends, which almost always ties into eating somehow
.  I am a member of the National Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society, and love promoting DECA to anyone I can find! I am very excited to serve Virginia DECA this year as a State Officer and can not wait for all of the fun we will have!

Region 2
Rachel Wildey
Westfield DECA
rachelwildey24@gmail.com

I am currently a senior at Westfield High School, Region 2 of Virginia. I have been a DECA member for the past three years. My favorite DECA memory was when my school participated in the Chick-fil-a challenge against one of our rival schools. This memory is my favorite because it was a great experience in how students of all different backgrounds came together and created a fantastic event. This is one of the reasons I made that choice to become a DECA state officer. My Goal as an officer is to not only get more people to join DECA, but to also get them more involved in DECA. Outside of DECA I participate on my high schools varsity golf team and I hold a part-time job at a local restaurant. In my free time I enjoy running, listening to music (all different kinds) and just hanging out with my friends. My favorite quote is “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”. To me, this quote means that if you are not putting your heart into what you are doing you most likely will not achieve what you set out to accomplish. I love meeting new people and connecting with my fellow DECA members. I am looking forward to having a fantastic year as your Virginia Region 2 Vice President.

Region 3
Carrisa Jeffers
King George DECA

carrisaj@aol.com

I attend King George High School and I will be a senior there next year.  This will be my fourth year in DECA! My Favorite DECA memory has to be, when I gave my speech to the voting delegates at SLC. It was so exciting and nerve racking but it was one of the most wonderful DECA experiences I ever had, because I was able to overcome by nervousness. I had never been so nervous in my life, but it all worked out in the end! A little bit about me is, I want to go into to medical field, I’m a Marine child, I’m captain of the Varsity field hockey team, I’m in National Honor Society,  have been an Officer for my class for the past 3 years,  I was District 19 President, and I’m active in my church youth group. My passion is DECA and I have so many goals and ambitions for this upcoming year! Feel free to contact me about Region 3, can’t wait to hear from you.  DECA diamonds are forever!

Region 4
Taylor Burns
Grassfield DECA
taylorjoburns@yahoo.com

I was born in Columbus, Mississippi on October 31, 1993 (yes I am a Halloween baby). Since my dad was in the air force we moved around a lot, I have lived in Alabama and Ohio as well before settling down in Chesapeake, Virginia. Whoot Whoot! I love Chesapeake because we are 30 minutes from Virginia Beach and an hour from the Outer Banks, so I spend half my time on the beach!  I am currently a senior at Grassfield High School, located in Region 4, and have been an Officer for my chapter since my freshman year. DECA has influenced my life in ways I could never have imagined. It has helped me decide on career paths and helped me to grow as a person. My favorite DECA memories are probably from my first ICDC in Louisville, Kentucky.  It was my first time on a plane and everything that could go wrong went wrong (literally!), but after all of that I probably had one of the best weeks of my life. At my high school I have play Volleyball and Cheerleading. I am a part of the Entrepreneurship strand of the Technology Academy at Grassfield High School, National Honor Society, Girl Scouts, and am extremely involved in my church as a student leader. I love DECA with all of my heart and look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces at SLC this year! I am so excited to get started as your Region 4 Vice President and cannot wait to see the adventures that lie ahead!

I was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on December 10, 1993.  I have lived in the same place my entire life, Dryden, Virginia. Dryden is a very small area out in the country filled with multiple farms and open land, without any stores or anything considered "fun". However, we do have one gas/service station. Despite not having much to do, I love exactly where I live. I am an upcoming Senior at Lee High School. I play softball for my high school, and am a member and captain of our marching band's flag corp. I am active in many of my school's clubs such as DECA, of course, Senior Beta Club, SCA, Spanish Club, Science Club, FBLA, Co-ed Hi Y, First Priority, and Pep Club. I have only been in DECA one year; this upcoming year will be my second. My favorite memory while being in DECA is attending my first ICDC held in Orlando, FL just last year. Meeting people from all different states and countries was an incredible experience. Trading my Virginia pins with different states/countries was definitely an interesting time. I am very excited for this year in DECA and being a state officer; I know it will be a great one. I am anxious to see where this year takes me, including trips and decisions. I am very grateful for God, my family, and the few friends I have; I wouldn't be anywhere near to where I am without them.
